Should Canadian Prime Minister listen to MCC

Here is a question we want our readers to answer, should Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper listen to Muslim Canadian Congress (MCC) on the issue of Banning the Burka in Canada like France, the Burka is Muslim attire for our sisters and they have fundamental right to wear it without any fear or some one imposing upon them. We all should condemn MCC’s appeal and raise our voice.

  1. I think Burka is good thing and a mandatory attire for sisters, in my view even regular Canadian women should adopt it to protect from weather and other crimes.

    • Ismail, I ask you a single question. Will you open the door of your house if someone with face coverd knocks on your door?

If not then how can you justify that others will feel safe when a moving tent approaches them?

      Let us be reasonable.

      • Saqib, some has put their words in your mouth which has closed the door to your brain thinking capability.

Now answer to you questions is simple, how many incidents in the whole world and in Canada can you refer where burka covered women engaged in safety and security problems, and by the way its a respectable attire in Muslim world so hope fully you describe them with a little bit more respect.

We all need to be sensitive while talking about each others faith.

    • Bukhari Volume 3, Book 29, Number 64:
      Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Umar:
A person stood up and asked, “O Allah’s: Apostle! What clothes may be worn in the state of Ihram?” The Prophet replied, “Do not
wear a shirt or trousers, or any headgear (e.g. a turban), or a hooded cloak; but if somebody has no shoes he can wear leather stockings
provided they are cut short off the ankles, and also, do not wear anything perfumed with Wars or saffron, and the Muhrima (a woman
in the state of Ihram) should not cover her face, or wear gloves.”

Who told you Burqa is mandatory?

      • youshouldlisten

Doesn’t mean a thing to me, b/c its not what we are arguing here, we are debating women right to choose and their right to believe in their own identity.

  2. I agree man, whats wrong with it, from centuries we have this Islamic tradition and why we should give up because of some secular want it to be banned here, I think we have our rights we should be free to do follow our values.

  3. MCC always pick up on Muslims in Canada and try to be a bias representative claiming to be a congress for muslims in Canada, is this true?

    • Thats true but on the other hand what have we done to counter their efforts in main stream media, I think this blog is a platform for all real Muslims to voice their opinion as well.

  4. As much as I support our Charter of Rights and have sympathy for muslim women’s right to wear what they wish, but I strongly believe that in this age and time security is main concern which MCC is focusing upon and I don’t see a harm in it.

  5. Can we not all send an email or letter to PM Harper to show our view in this matter instead of them listening to MCC, by doing this we have a fair opportunity in this whole issue to represent ourselves.

  6. Why don’t we send him an appeal to ban MCC itself.

  7. I fully support ban on Burqa at public places. Burqa is not an Islamic attire as per Quran and Sunnah. This is a cultural dress that has roots in pre-Islam Arab Jahaliya.

Religion is not an issue here. People believe in many weird and inhumane things and that does not mean that Canada should allow such practices in the name of freedom of religion. Polygamy and Slavery though condoned by traditional Islamic texts is outlawed in Canada and many others countries including most Islamic countries. If Burqa can be banned in Turkey, Central Asian and Arab Muslim states why cannot it be banned in civilized world?

Burqa is a symbol of female inequality and lower status in society. In most circumstances it is forced on women and children by dominant males in the family thus restricting them to be fully productive members of the society. This is against Canadain charter.

Face gives identity to a person. This is my right to know the person I am dealing with. If that person is not ready to reveal his/her identity then I have every right to refuse to interact with him/her.

Public safety is one single most important reason that Burqa should be banned in Public in general and in offices, banks, malls, subway, airports, trains etc. in particular.

Being a Muslim I fully support MCC on this issue.

    • Nowhere in Quran Burqa is prescribed for women. ather Burqa is banned by Quran inside Holy Kaaba in Mecca and during Hajj pilgrimage. Isn’t this enough clue that Allah dislike Burqa.

If Burqa can be banned in Saudi Arabia, why cannt it be banned in Canada?

  8. We all have heard arguments from people like Saqib, and their rational is based on Islamic justification, but my friend, even if its not in Islam as you say, why should some one be deprived of their cultural beliefs.

As far as security goes, 911 terrorists had western clothes on not Arabic or Pakistani dress, so get out of your brain wash and start thinking with respect and logic.

    • Walid,
The issue is not religion, culture or ethnicity. The issue is concealing of identity at public places by covering face.

      • Get your thoughts straight, you have given reference to Quranic verses above and now you are saying something different.

      • Well how big is the issue, or is it just an excuse, I think you need to zoom out of your pro-western views unless you really are stuck and have to make your “friends” happy. I understand your predicament, you are not alone there are many like you.
